Safe. Secure. Simple.
That’s my motto when it comes to electricity, taught to me long ago by my own dad, who used to repair televisions back in the day when we just didn’t put faulty electrical appliances straight into landfill. He understood electricity and electronics very well. Early on therefore (whilst he went about fault-finding in the back of open, live TV sets) he introduced me to a very healthy respect for what 50kV can do. I’ve not forgotten his lessons!
So why use me? In three words: Safe, Secure, Simple. Let me explain what I mean by each one:-
Safe

Because doing work on mains electricity requires specialised test equipment to ensure your home is safe. A DIY enthusiast who fits an electric socket for free may look like a great bargain, but Johnny Amateur has absolutely no idea if what he has done will be OK in the event of a fault. The fact that a socket or light actually works is not an indicator of it’s safe installation (as the small print in your Home Insurance Policy non-payment clause will point out). The most important part of my job is to check that all your shiny new sockets / lights/ switches/ etc are all safe to be used and are protected in the event of a fault. On the subject of faults, tracing problems will also require specialist equipment and training that Mr Amateur simply won’t have, which leads me nicely onto:
Secure
Having fitted (or replaced) your lights / sockets / cooker outlets / chargers / etc. in your home, you should know that they are secure, operate correctly and comply with the latest electrical regulations. These new gadgets should not cause your fuses to trip when (say) you next use the washing machine. Equally, lights shouldn’t be left dangling from the ceiling by only their blue and brown wires, nor your outside plug socket fill up with rainwater after a deluge. My job is to make sure that all your fittings are secure against external issues (weather, mice, inquisitive toddlers, kitchen fumes, etc) and are fit for purpose for their long term use. Which then brings me onto:
Simple

Modern electrical items are much more complicated than in the past, and it is hard to know what solutions works well and/or where best to use them. We also all use far more plug-in electrical items at home nowadays (laptops, phones, cordless devices, electric bikes/cars, etc), which has led to changes in both the electrical regulations and in modern electrical protective devices. I like to make all this simple for you to understand, not bombard you with the latest rules or technology. I will also advise where you can save money (e.g. use less electricity or involve simpler or even no wiring), or use a more suitable device to make it easier for those with mobility and/or other issues (e.g. using people sensors rather than switches on stairwells).
Like my company name implies, I can help you talk through whatever your electrical needs are, what you can (and can’t) do, and what is available on the market to make things easier and/or cheaper for you – us professional electricians always keep on top of the latest developments and share our knowledge and learning in online forums, which benefits you: our customers. If you further information, or need help in deciding what’s right for you, please feel free to get in touch with me on the ‘Contact’ page.
